Caring for your Cutlery

18/10 stainless steel cutlery is long-lasting, and resistant to staining and acid attack. However, it can be damaged if a little care is not taken to protect against everyday corrosive elements. To keep your new cutlery looking its best, clean and dry it as soon as possible after use. Do not leave it in water to soak, or let it stand in the dishwasher overnight after running a rinse programme.

Acids found in food residue and mineral salts in water can attack the metal and will eventually cause unsightly pitting and staining. If your cutlery is washed promptly after use, it is not necessary to use any abrasive cleaners to remove food residue. Scouring with an abrasive pad will leave tiny scratches in the surface of the metal, which will reduce the shine.

High direct heat can also damage the surface of the metal, so it is not recommended that your cutlery is used for cooking.

Minor water marks and stains may appear on your cutlery from time to time and may be polished off with a proprietary stainless steel cleaner. Never use silver cleaner to polish stainless steel cutlery, as this will damage the metal. If washing in a dishwasher, we advise that you take the pieces out as soon as the cycle is finished and wipe them dry with a soft cloth before putting away. This prevents any dishwasher salt residue that is present in the humid atmosphere from drying onto the pieces and causing water mark stains. Do not wash silver and stainless steel cutlery together. The silver could get scratched by the steel, which is much harder and the steel cutlery could rust.
